Mission
The Superior Bio-Conservancy is an ambitious plan to protect and restore the biological integrity and hydrology of the Great Lakes Region and the Laurentian Forest Province throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

Our Goals

The goal is to restore and support biodiversity, genetic exchange, ecosystem services and evolutionary processes for future generations. This will be a health care plan for this Bio-Region of the Earth.

Our Plan
  1. We are currently creating a map of connecting wildlife corridors across the public lands in the Northwood's of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan - this is also known as the Laurentian Forest Province and is 88,000 square miles in the US. These connecting corridors will identify keystone land bridges for future protected status as part of the 30 x 30 and President Biden’s “America the Beautiful” plans.
  2. Currently the total public acreage in this northern forest is 21,482,887 acres. These public lands are made of 12,070,867 acres in Minnesota, 4,380,681 acres in Wisconsin, and 5,031,339 acres in Michigan (of Federal, State and County Forest). This equals 33,567 square miles of public land, or 38% of the ecosystem landscape. We are advocating for an additional 12% of forest to be permanently protected that would protect an additional estimated 6,700,000 acres of forest, allowing us to achieve 50% protected lands.
  3. Create a recovery zone for the Milwaukee Watershed based on a study titled "Hydrological Impact of Beaver Habitat Restoration in the Milwaukee River Watershed" to allow for the restoration of beaver for flood mitigation, increase in biodiversity, and decrease in taxpayers money.
  4. Work with stakeholders to improve and develop science-based beaver management plans across the Midwest for sustained conservation efforts
  5. Restore the hydrology of the region and stabilize the geomorphology of the watersheds and Lake Superior by rebuilding beaver populations and providing tools to support beaver-human coexistence.
